Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

The Roc (gargantuan bird ;) ) I went for a sky blue "stealth mode" and also added an acrylic rod to give it a little height.
Does the extra height make the model unstable? I just painted my roc not too long ago, and while I'm happy with it, the darn thing fell apart and I can't easily fix it. One of these days I'm going to have to strip it and start all over again.

I think I made an error. I ordered two busts from Amazon without looking too closely at where they were coming from. While the busts were discounted, they weren't so heavily discounted to make me question their legitimacy, but now I'm waiting for delivery from China and I'm starting to have some doubts. It bothers me I may have inadvertantly contributed to the original artist/company not being paid for their work.

Someone recommended a site to purchase models that offered deep discounts on products that come from China. (I don't mean to pick on China here, but that seems to be where a lot of this stuff comes from.) After looking at their offerings, it was quite clear someone was being cheated here as they were offering models that typically retailed for $60+ for less than $10. I'm guessing most of the models were either recast or they had access to the original factory molds.

Live and learn I guess. I'll take greater care about where I order models from in the future. Getting a discount doesn't make me feel good about others being cheated.

Reaper mini Fathom Tyrant in progress. A chance to practice eyes was a big reason I bought it.

Hmm... That eye looks familiar for some reason...

It's pretty stable. 1/4" acrylic rod. I kept the length of the expose rod to about 4", much taller and the rod bends under the weight. But I also sank the rod all the way into the base (~3") and about 3/8" into the Roc.

Any advice for stripping paint acrylics? Using methalated spirits abd a tooth brush on metal.

Older plastic space crusade enamel. Brown dettol has been recommended.

Lots of elbow grease I'm guessing?

That hydra arrived, but I guess I should have ordered the 32mm version because at 28mm it is smaller than I understood it to be based on the measurements given on the store. The dread started when I saw the size of the box it was mailed in, and I got Next Level Minis vibes as I unwrapped it (if anyone is familiar with the response to their first kickstarter).

It remains a great sculpt, but feels a little closer to Large than Huge (reinforced by coming with a base that is larger than 2" in diameter, but smaller than 3 inches).

I stood it against some 28mm and 32 mm hero minis and it regains some of its intimidation factor in comparison, so I think I'll get over it once it is painted and in use.

The other minis look great and feel closer to the general sense of scale that works for me. I really don't usually care about scale and mix match scales - but sometimes a big monster needs to seem even bigger to have the effect at the table when you bust it out.
