Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Yeah, and the weird thing is that other miniatures in that same run did come with the transparent stand, like your Fathom Tyrant. Here's mine - not as cool, especially the eye; yours has ten times as much character.

My wife wanted little bloodshot veins on mine! I'm also missing the two smaller eye stalks. They came with the model but I lost them.

Mine's just staring straight ahead like it's 2am and they're out of their mind on meth. Yours actually has character and are looking suspiciously around. It's way cooler.

Edit: I'm just not naturally an artist. I have painted for so long that I am proficient and I think my miniatures look pretty good. I'm at the high end of what you can accomplish with little talent but a lot of practice. As well as being more talented, you've got an artist's eye. Instead of just painting the miniature in a straightforward way, you've experimented and given it character.

We are spoiled today with the availability of minis, especially with 3D printed ones. But I will always have a soft spot for the old ones. These are mine from 1979 to 1989. I remember walking into a game store in Ketchikan Alaska in 1981 and immediately being enthralled by the minis.

Feel free to zoom in. Apologies for some of the poor paint quality, as some were painted my me 45 years ago lol. Many are still unpainted after decades, so it is safe to say I will never be free of the grey tide lol.

I wish they still used the same scale so these old ones would fit better side by side with new ones. Then again, I'm seeing most of these on ebay for $20 or more a pop, so maybe I should just sell them and retire :P

Awesome!

I am sure there are more, but I saw at least two minis I also have in my collection - a wizard and a lizardman.

I'm sure there are. You can't see most of the ones in the back on each shelf from the photo. Especially the warriors shelf. It's packed. Odds are pretty good you have several of the same ones.

Impressive. I'd say it easily rivals the collection that I saw, a few years back, while shooting some pics of a Microsoft charity stream.

Those old miniatures are incredible. I love them. I don't have any of my original collection left from the 80s. Somewhere, in one of my many moves during my 20s, they vanished. So I'm jealous.

I'm not going to argue against mine being cooler! ;) It looks like we used similar techniques when painting the eye though.

I also have a soft spot for those classic miniatures from the 1980s. Even the goofy looking ones. No. Especially the goofy looking ones!
