Sounds like the putty has a little bit of a learning curve to it as well.

Not really, it's pretty simple to mix and use. The learning curve is in becoming proficient at doing specific, more complex things with it. Filling gaps and pits on a figure is easy, but using it to create new details or do a complete figure from scratch takes more practice.
Ten minutes on youtube will give you all the info and instruction you need for most purposes.

Then again, I don't even paint the bases.

I don't even bother with a base if the mini can stand on its own! (and sometimes I sticky tack a smaller mini on a larger base to indicate "actual" size relative to other minis)

It was nice to do something different, but I don’t think I’ll be painting Gundam models. I like the way the paint looks though.

This 1/10 figure was purchased so I could practice my flesh tones. Since it’s artificial skin, I didn’t add any flaws to make it more realistic.

I’m trying my hand at a 1/6 scale figure of everyone’s favorite lawman from a dystopian America. That’s right, John Spartan a.k.a. the Demolition Man.

They drew first blood!

I started with a base of purple, highlighted pink, used a Caucasian flesh color, then a really bright highlight, and my Caucasian flesh in glaze form. I mixed in some brown in an attempt to add 5 o’clock shadow. Lip was applied with a glaze of burnt flesh.

This is the head of an ABC Warrior. These robots are created to teach the children of Mega City 1 reading and elocution.

And that’s it for Marion Cobretti’s head. I decided to use comic book colors which are a little different from the movie.
