Wizards of the Coast has revealed four of the subclasses that will appear in this summer's Arcana Unleashed. The reveals came via a news article posted to Variety about the upcoming second season of Dungeon Masters, Wizards' D&D Actual Play show. The upcoming season will utilize material from Arcana Unleashed, with an adventure set in the Anauroch Desert of the Forgotten Realms. The cast will each play as characters with subclasses pulled from Arcana Unleashed.

The four subclasses from Arcana Unleashed are:
  • Arcane Archer Fighter
  • Warrior of the Mystic Arts Monk
  • Transmuter Wizard
  • Vestige Warlock
The description for Season 2 of Dungeon Masters is as follows:

Our heroes, magical agents of the Order of the Ninth Quill, are hurled into the lethal expanse of the Anauroch Desert: a shattered wasteland still radiating the catastrophic magic of Netheril’s fall. A fragile, shimmering barrier is all that stands between Faerûn and the arcane horrors buried beneath the dunes, and it’s failing. But the desert itself is anything but quiet. The Bringers of the Cosmic Dawn seek to tear the barrier down in pursuit of their own vision, while the Red Wizards of Thay maneuver in the shadows, hungry to seize the arcane power within. As if that were not enough, the desert itself seems intent on killing them. One problem: these kids are the absolute bottom of the barrel. Let’s meet The Misfits.

Wizards has confirmed that two more seasons of Dungeon Masters will be released prior to year end 2026.

What "real stakes" can an RPG have? Fail a die roll and they shoot your dog? It's watching actors play a game in front of camera!
New horror movie: it's a TTRPG actual play, but whatever happens to the character happens to the player of that character. Saw meets Critical Role.

Someone tell Blumhouse to call me, I'll tell them where to send the check. 😆

Very interested in the Vestige patron warlock. I considered having characters find a single main patron or wheel-a-deal with a variety of spirits for their power to be the main branches of the class. I was surprised when a "binder" wasn't an option at first. Glad to see it now.
Neither Warlock nor Binder quite captures the dark ritualist who binds powers to his will and uses ritual impliments like bells and daggers and bowls/chalices and draws complex diagrams with True Names written in ancient tongues, the occult practitioner who is part witch, part hermetic alchemist, part binder of dangerous and forbidden magic.

I want to bind my enemies and curse them and heal my allies with potions and give them talismans and i want my magic to be a little different depending on which Impliment i focus on and just be weird and spooky and maybe a bit foolish in spite of my intellect as i bargain and bind and outsmart things i shouldnt be messing with. The whole focus on a singular patron sucks IMO.

In 4e i played a Gloom Hexblade and i didnt have a patron, i had a shard of a shadow gods' divinity stuck into me and used it to bind shadow to me and form it into tangible weapons and tools, basically playing a magic thief turned assassin.

Another was a Fey Warlock whose father was Jack from the stories and had taught my PC "tricks" to make reality do what i wanted it to do, just like a Fey.

Another was a White Well Hexblade which did have a patron but it was not at all like a 5e patron. The Lady was a tragic figure he had sworn to help, and he was basically a Fey knight.

None of that did what i really want either but at least ritual magic wasnt part of class so i was able to do that anyway.

Warrior of the Mystic Arts monk is about to illustrate how 2024 monks are top tier tanks, given that those other characters are all ranged. I think some people will be shocked by how tough monks have become, and this subclass also gets access to the shield spell.
