Goblin Trouble was very OK and not particularly tied to the Borderlands boxed set. Hopefully this year's entry is more in line with the published version of the setting.

I think the writing of Goblin Trouble was great for a starter adventure, however it arrived completely broken when they paired it with a map that was unkeyed and contradicted the written adventure.

"Hey, learning D&D for the first time with a beginner friendly starter-kit? What if we gave you an adventure that was confusing and broken on delivery?"

I use "Borderlands: Goblin Trouble" in my "How To Dungeon Master" class, as an exercise in how to make your own map from a written adventure and how to prep an adventure with table-ready materials.

I do hope the new adventure is better. And also that it uses materials from the box set, which is excellent.

The box is terrible for running one-shots, which is what I almost always run. So I've written a one-shot that uses the setting and materials.

I need more information on what you mean here.

I've run the box several times and it basically only does one shots unless you work on making it into something bigger.

Give the players one of the big quests from the keep, like exploring each biome and return home to help in creating a better map of the region, and boom, you've got a one-shot.

Just read the adventure. It's pretty short and to the point. And, amusingly, given that daggers aren't one of the item cards for Heroes of the Borderlands, you're questing after an heirloom dagger.

It's a sequel to the kobold cave being cleared, and has the PCs going into a newly restocked cave to retrieve the dagger. The NPC they might talk with gets a name -- not all of the sentient NPCs in the boxed set have them -- which is also nice.

Looks like a good two-hour game or so, although it might be pretty dangerous for a brand new group, given how combat-heavy it is.

Definitely better than Goblin Trouble.
