Mandalorian and Grogu much better than expected. Saw it in IMAX and it looked great to me - the swamp planet is spectacular, the action setpieces are excellent, and Big hat bounty hunter poses a credible threat to Mando. Grogu and his little mates look very puppety but I think that’s a deliberate choice and it mostly worked for me. On the downside, the plot is forgettable and the acting just so-so. They also make a valiant attempt to turn a Hutt into an action hero, which is ultimately unsuccessful, cause the big slugs are just too gross and goofy looking. But overall money well spent and I’m glad I saw it in the theatre.

Yeah its a fun movie imho.

There is one section where they are fighting a couple of giant droids where they are made to move like stop motion animation. Like the rancor in RotJ. So that at least was a deliberate choice.

But actual human characters are a bit of a rarity, and tend to stand out. On acting, Signorny Weaver isn’t so good. I think she is uncertain if her character is a secret villain or not.

I guess change of plan is possible, I was thinking setting up a sequel, or simply Weaver reading between the lines.

She certainly was willing to sacrifice Rotta, so that makes her not a good person. But I got the impression she also sold out Mando, and only lead the rescue so as to keep her squadron on side, or because provoking a conflict with the Hutts suited the First Order. One can imagine that it would suit the First Order that any Imperial Remnant who did not sign on were taken out by the Mandalorian.

Um, Actually... Those were Phil Tippet droids. The same guy who did the stop motion for AT-ATs in ESB.

So, I got a report. I have been playing Star Wars Unlimited online with a friend. I got another gamer friend group that has decks. So, im currently building mine. Having fun so far.

I went with a Jabba deck since it seems like nobody has done one in my group. The Max Rebo band is my favorite card so far.

So, I’ve now finished The Acolyte, and I loved it. It’s a lovely lived-in version of the GFFA and there are lots of clever touches. The scenery is amazing - it’s a great use of Madeira (and south Wales). I’m not 100% sure they stuck the landing, but I’d be very happy to see a second season.

It’s an excellent tragedy and I think it’s fascinating that it’s all about parenting and the need to be a parent, and how selfish and misguided that can make you. Sol was misled and warped by his need to be a parent and to protect Osha and Mae, but it was Aniseya and Koril’s need to be parents that made them create Osha and Mae in the first place. It’s Qimir’s need to be a parent or mentor that leads him to pursue Osha and Mae so obsessively.

Notably, it’s the women who make the right decisions - Indara and Aniseya - who die first and for the least reason, tragically.

The whole story reminded me of my GP training. I underwent various sorts of medical training over 6 years to become a family doctor, but my last two years was as a GP trainee, which in the U.K. is under close supervision with one mentor. And honestly, this is a terrible idea - I learned much more effectively working under several senior doctors, learning different skills and styles, and general practice is particularly a setting where you’re supposed to develop an individual style of working and where you’re probably least well served emulating a single mentor. I couldn’t help but think of this when observing the Jedi-padawan relationship.

I hadn't realised the Brendock scenes were filmed in Wales.
