General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Don't forget that the Galactic Republic is also part theocracy. The Jedi are officially recognized, exercise all sorts of government powers with no democratic oversight, and are the only religion shown with such standing.

The Galactic government is complicated. Its almost like it was thrown together in the background and just used to propel the plot with no regards to continuity. I blame the midichlorians.
The Jedi would haveto exercise power over people in a religious context for the republic to be a theocracy. They do not.

The way that the Jedi act as ambassadors for the Republic in TPM, the time the Jedi raised and directly commanded an entire Republic army in AotC, and Jedi's ability to refuse government oversight in RotS would be my first three examples.

But I'm happy to agree to disagree on the labels. The term "theocracy" isn't as important as noting that they play a critical role in the Galactic government.
