Giths

Macros

First Post
I have a player who wants to play a Githzerai monk ... and while I think that would be cool in this campaign, we're having trouble finding the appropriate modifications one would need to make to ability scores (if any) when rolling up a Gith PC. I have the Psionics Handbook (which has a monster entry for the Githzerai) but thats no help! Which book would I need to look in ... or better ... what are they!? (thanks in advance)
Cheers!

the formula for converting monsters stats into ability adjustments is in the DMG somewhere toward the front...I believe you subtract 10 from an even stat and 11 from an odd one and the result is the modifier...for scores above ten or 11....I think I dont remember for sure...

They can also be found in the Manual of the Planes. If you have the monster stats that's all you need, merlion has it correct. Follow the -10 for even and -11 for odd and you'll have your stat adjustments for a PC Githzerai.

I just rolled up a Githzari psyhic warrior for my game (using a selection of feats and powers to make him compairable to a standard monk). IIRC:
ECL +2
Psionics: combat prescience, far punch, feather fall (3/day each). Manifester level 16th. If the're 11th level or higher also Plane Shift 1/day.
Combat Modes (3/day each): Ego whip, Mental Barrier
Inertial Armor: The 'zeri can use this feat without needing the nessessery PP reserve, through their innate psionic ability (as I read it they still need to choose the feat, though I'm not really sure).

Power Resistance: 5 + level.
Ability Scores: Dex +6, Wis +2, Int -2.
Favored Multicalss: Monk.

The -2 Int isn't quite right...

Check out the monsters as PC's section in the DMG, and you will see reduced average intelligence works on a chart instead of just a straight -2.

I thought everyone ignored that chart and just went with a strait mod? That's what I do anyway . . .

Githzerei also make good archers. And slaad farmers, given their prime location in Limbo.

The reason that stats below 10 use charts in the DMG instead of straight modifiers is to maintain the average value despite the minimum of 3 (for Int) and 1 (for the rest). 3d6-2 with a minimum of 3 doesn't give quite the same average as 3d6-2.

Whether one thinks it's important to keep the distinction is a different matter.
