GOD RULES: Player's Guide (5e) Previews/Discussion

My great, noble, and legendary friend... if you release 10 epic bestiaries, I guarantee we'll all buy them with great joy.

I have ideas for 1000+ monsters, its just getting the books finished that's the issue.

Hey Geminisaga777 amigo!

Start adding the monsters to the books and releasing them for us as quickly as possible.

Every book will have some amount of Monsters (and NPCs).

If something goes wrong later, sell a separate expansion with updates and new monsters. You can do this indefinitely, and we'll love it... we want that... until today, your epic bestiary and rules are what saved the epic level of the 3rd edition... now it's up to you to save this new one.

I will stick to my plans at the very least for 2026/2027. As long as I am doing 'okay' from the DrivethruRPG sales and Kickstarters after that point I will keep going.

After God Rules: Epic Heroes, if I can get two books done a year (one 300+ pages, one 150+ pages and maybe one sub 100 page Adventure) I would be happy enough.

Rule books are an extremely complicated jigsaw of design, Adventures are moderately complicated and Monster books are relatively straightforward by comparison. It just happened that this time I went with the Rulebook first and that has slowed me down. So after this I am not expecting similar delays* fingers crossed. On top of that a lot of the next two books (Epic Artifacts and Epic Campaigns) are half written already - if I can get both done by the end of 2026 I will be happy. Then the Epic Bestiary should be around 120 monsters - I should be able to get 15 done per week (so 'on paper' that's 8 weeks but practically more like 4-5 months for me). Then the Apocalypse Camel Adventure (3-4 months I'm guessing) then a smaller adventure (2-3 months). Then a Mega-Adventure, then the second Epic Bestiary and so on. Of course everyone has a plan 'til time smacks them in the face - but better to have a plan than not.

*Although the Dimensional Forging rules might be tricky.

Hey guys, just to let you know I did an update to the Kickstarter today.

Basically just a progress report and the release plan in 2 weeks time.

Now I did reveal a cool nostalgic piece of art. But you will have to visit the Kickstarter to see it. ;)

As ever, happy to hear feedback on anything.

Can I anticipate that we'll be seeing them in the eventual Monster book? Or maybe even in a summoning spell/statblock in this one? ;)

That is the art for the Vengeful Gaze epic spell*. Sadly no stat-block in this book (its not one of the 19 stat-blocks - and half these are reworked so don't get too excited although there are a few people will love I think) but I do have them planned for the Bestiary (I reserve the right to use the same artwork) - but they are no longer Abominations, they are something else (I was reading up on Amilictli lore and I think they fit better elsewhere). So they will be slightly changed, maybe a tad more powerful - I sorted out my 39 core Templates recently so a few things are changing - but all really cool.

*I initially had art for the Volcano spell, but swapped it out (I think the Vengeful Gaze art is a better piece).

Something that was mentioned to be included early on were a couple of legendary races. You mentioned a while ago that one was called the Grigori. Are those still to be included in this book, or will they be coming in later content?

There are six playable (epic) races in the book, five are new (one being the Grigori) to D&D (the other one is the Rakshasa).

These are base CR 12 races, I did have six CR 24 races as well (including my version of Saiyans), but I needed to move them into another book. Crazy to think a 480 page book has space issues - but it is what it is.

Which book is planned to include the saiyans?

Asking for a friend...

Not sure yet. I mean hypothetically it would fit the GR: Epic Heroes II book - if that ever appears. They may also appear as Creatures in the Bestiary.

Was also thinking today that because Monsters are easier to do than Adventures the next Kickstarter might be the Epic Bestiary rather than the Epic Campaigns book:

God Rules: Epic Heroes (this current book)
God Rules: Epic Artifacts (the cut Artifacts Chapter only expanded)
God Rules: Epic Bestiary
God Rules: Epic Campaigns
etc.

While I do have 40-50% of the Epic Campaigns book written already in terms of complexity its completion may take about as long as the Epic Bestiary itself (of which 50+ illustrations already exist). So both look like a 4-5 month turnaround.

The probable format of the Epic Bestiary is likely to be a bunch of 32 page chapters on specific planes, space between planes or similarly interesting locations - it won't be an alphabetical book.

As of right now I'm just not sure what my dimensional cut-off point will be - with 12 chapters its a 416 page book, with 10 chapters its 352 pages and with 8 chapters its 288 pages.

I also just came up with a very interesting idea for the Monster Cards and that may either impact the number chapters or the number of monsters within each chapter.

But I don't have time to really map that out in any detail until after I get this first book completed.

Super Energy Types Preview

Following are the new Super-Energy types which along with the even more powerful Ultra Energy types are backbones of divine damage. Hope you like them.
It’s been a while since you posted this, but i just realized that there is no super version of force or weapon damage. Weapon damage makes sense largely, but why not force damage? Do you consider it already super or?

Hey amigo!

Gravity damage is super force. It inflicts extra damage based on the targets Damage Threshold multiplier.

For normal creatures this would be +30% for Iron Golems it would be +50% for Neutonium Golems it would be +120%, etc.
