Third parties stepping in to try it are showing too little empathy for the victims to claim they are "powerful good".

Reclaiming tainted symbols typically only works if it is done by the victims of the evil who tainted it.

Offhand there are no actual examples of a symbol being both reclaimed and neutered so to speak that jump immediately to mind. The most obvious example of an "attempt" is still extremely problematic in so many ways.
