Although I haven't seen it yet, a lot of my friends like the anime series Berserk. I've even seen it described as Conan the Barbarian meets Record of Lodoss War. :)

I'm assuming that by 'Fantasy', you mean western Swords & Sorcery type fantasy? I've never watched it, but I hear Slayers is in that mold (although with a more comical bent). Simlarly, I've never seen Those Who Hunt Elves.

For very low magic fantasy (at least until after the series was cancelled), I would recommend Beserk. The show does go much higher into the magic realm, but not until after they cancelled the anime adaption. If you choose to watch it, make sure you get the manga collections for closure, since the series ends very abruptly.

A lot of anime in this fashion mixes and matches Western and Eastern fantasy concepts, and many often mix and match modern and past. For example, Bleach (my current favorite series) starts as a modern fantasy series...but by the 20th episode, it's mostly sword-fighting fantasy in an alternate world.

On the other hand, a fun anime that's close to DnD in some ways is Slayers.

El Hazard and Escaflowne are both good fantasy series but with twists.

And for silly fun, Bastard!

Rune Soldier Louie is another D&D-ish fantasy anime, as is Ruin Explorers.

Princess Mononoke, Inu-yasha, Slayers, Those Who Hunt Elves and Full Metal Alchemist are good anime that I have that are fantasy.

Geoff.

Outlaw Star is great, and it's fantasy. Sci-fantasy, yes, but fantasy nonetheless. I know you want swords, but OS is just too good to go unrecommended :)

Weathering Continent is a wonderful film and I highly recommend it.

Berserk is really good. The above poster is incorrect in saying that it got cancelled, though. It was only ever meant to cover one story arc of the much longer manga.

Escaflowne, in my opinion, is simply the greatest TV series ever made. Incredible animation and music, and a tight story that doesn't let up for a second.

Magic Knight Rayearth is another good one. The plot twist at the end of the first series is just jaw dropping.

For something that's just straight-up commedy, check out Dragon Half.

Violenist Hammelin has some of the worst animation ever, but the gripping story more than makes up for it.

Although, I don't think it's technically fantasy, you might also want to check out Heroic Legend of Arslan.
