Gray Ooze xtion before tonights game

Hi,

Its possible the party could run into a gray ooze tonight, and I'm a little confused about how its abilities work.

When exactly do PCs' equipment (arms, armor, etc) need to make reflex saves?

If the ooze attacks a PC with its slam attack, it does d6+1 damage and d6 acid damage to the PC....does it also do 40 damage to all of the PC's equipment? None of it? A randomly selected piece of it?

What if the ooze grapples a PC? Does it do damage to all equipment every round? none of it? one piece only?

When it talks about its special "acid" attack, is that a separate attack from its normal Slam attack? Does this special attack only target a single item worn by the PC, or...?

Clarification would be greatly appreciated. Further, where is the section that talks about item saving throws? I need to see how to quickly determine the reflex saves of items, I guess.

Attended items get the save of their user or +1/2 caster level, whichever is better.

I believe that any time a creature's weapon hits the ooze it must make a ref save; also, that any time the ooze hits a creature's armor, it must save. If it engulfs or grabs someone they have to save for their armor for sure.

Would the following be a fair summary of how acid can damage items?

1. If the ooze is hit by a wooden or metal weapon, the weapon takes 40 dmg unless it makes a reflex save...using the wielder's reflex save or the weapons, whichever is better.

2. If the ooze chooses to attack a particular item or piece of armor on the character, instead of the character itself, then the item or armor must make a reflex save or take 40 damage.

3. If the ooze grapples a character, the character's armor must make a save each round to avoid 40 damage.

Sound like the right interpretation, or am I off?

Well- except for point 2. :) What I meant was that if the ooze misses a creature by its armor bonus or less it hits the armor and deals damage to it, or if it grabs the creature. :)

I may be wrong about how all this stuff works, though- I don't think it's very clear in the MM.
