Graz'zt - so what about him?

Graz'zt has been previewed in this months Ampersand, and to my quick look over his Overwhelming Domination makes him fairly scary.

See him here by scrolling down.

The most interesting thing is that his bsaic attack is tied to his magic item; that is a change from the earlier big monsters like the Pit Fiend.

It looked okay, but I'm not so interested in the whole demon-war thing for my campaign. I hope that this is just a random example and the whole book isn't dominated by that.

You mean like:
:bmelee: Wand of Orcus (standard; at-will) • Necrotic, Weapon
Reach 4; +37 vs AC; 2d12+12 damage plus 1d12 necrotic damage, and the target is weakened (save ends); see also master of undeath

or maybe
:bmelee: Scepter of the Chosen Tyrant (standard; at-will) • Psychic, Weapon
+33 vs AC; 1d10+9 damage (crit 6d10+9), and the target takes ongoing 10 psychic damage (save ends). Fzoul can't be disarmed of this weapon.
