Steps 2-4 are Div1 college football in a nutshell.🤷🏾

Only Step 1 varies from era to era.
How dare you, Sir?! I demand satisfaction. You should be sputtering with anger at my besmirching of your team. Instead you counter with the truth? Again, how dare you, Sir! 🧐

It's Dragon Con weekend. It's also Atlanta Black Pride weekend. Those two events probably mix and mingle. One could almost say redundant.

I have no connection to LSU beyond state of origin. My Dad went to Tulane. I went to a dinky uni in Texas called Trinity.🤷🏾

Hell, I’m not even a fan of college football!😂

Two places in the metro area are hoping to get a NHL team. Atlanta has had TWO hockey teams in the past. BOTH of them moved to Canada 🇨🇦. I'm not sure the NHL is even looking to expand. Maybe a professional basketball team. We ain't got none. Okay okay, a WINNING professional basketball team. A winning professional football team would be nice also. I'm afraid this is a "If you build it, they will come" situation where they don't come and both spaces end up not being used and helluva lot of money is wasted. When the team moves to Canada in a few years it'll be wasted money anyway.

Part of having a winning team STAY is having a fan base that supports the team when things are bad. The Falcons- much as it pains me to say this as a Saints fan- have fielded some seriously good teams. And their fans keep attending games when they’re basement dwellers. (Something y’all have in common with the Saints.)

Ditto the Hawks and your MLB team.

So the question isn’t does Atlanta have the population to support an NHL team, it’s does ATL’s hockey fan base have enough interest to keep the team afloat during the lean times that will inevitably come.

That’s the kind of thing that’s kept the Stars in Dallas despite being many years out from raising the Stanley Cup. We’ve got a lot of fair weather hockey fans here in D/FW. When things are down, they show up late & leave early…if they attend at all.

But there’s a certain hard core of fans here who fill enough seats and buy enough merch that the team in the area. Even right now, there’s talk of them leaving the AAC, but they’re NOT talking about leaving the Metroplex.

I looked into it a little. It looks like the reason the hockey teams left was more internal than external. Ownership issues, and venue issues were the main problem, not the fan base.

You're right, the Falcons have had good teams and good players. Brett Favre got his start here. My dad told me that the original owner didn't put any effort in fielding a good team and coach because he actually made more money by losing. He could write it off as a loss on his taxes. I'm not sure if that's accurate, but it made sense to me at the time. The new owner Arthur Blank seems to want a winning team. I don't think they found the right combination of players, coaches, and front office management yet.

You're right about the fan base. We stick with our teams. I keep hoping this year will be THE year.

It's The Big Chicken! The Big Chicken is a local landmark. It started out as a chicken restaurant and still is a chicken restaurant under KFC.

I wanted to add. The one image mentions 4-lane. That's US highway 41. It goes from Lake Aeson at the top of Wisconsin all the way down to The Gulf of Aeson and across Florida to The Aeson Ocean. Interstate 75 does most of the heavy lifting with interstate travel these days but highway 41 is still busy in most local areas.
