Have you seen this monster?

Waaay back before 4e came out, during one of the Podcasts, James Wyatt mentioned a monster. It was just after he got through discussing the Rimefire Gryphon. It was some sort of undead that stole your healing surge - then turned around and did damage to you equal to that amount when it hit you.

I don't think I've ever seen this monster.

Tonight I went back looking for the podcast, and I can't find the spot where Wyatt talked about it.

Now I'm exceedingly frustrated I can't find evidence of this! Can someone out there help me?

There is apparantly a Rimefire Griffon in Legendary Evils: Legendary Evils Preview 3

No further information in that article. Of course, it's a Griffon, not a Gryphon, I am not sure if it's a spelling error on your side or really a different monster.

It's the same thing.

The Rimefire Griffon is in the MM1, page 147. I'm not looking for the Griffon (just that the Griffon was mentioned immediately before what I'm looking for). What I want is this:
It was some sort of undead that stole your healing surge - then turned around and did damage to you equal to that amount when it hit you.

I love that power. Tough fighters are going to get it the worst. Unless it's a one-shot deal or recharge 6, in which case it's not so useful. Still cool though.

One of the types of Brain in a Jar undead in "Open Grave" has an attack just like that. It steals a healing surge and inflicts the surge value as damage to another target.

That's probably it. It's definitely a monster in Open Grave, since I clearly remember one of them having such an ability.

Brain in an armored jar.

There are a few that remove a healing surge, then heal themselves some amount, thus effectively stealing & using it themselves (though not usually for a full 1/4 of their hp).

I just looked at the DDI entry. Great monster. I think the healing surge needs to be brought into play by more monsters in the future ....... though that probably goes against 4e design philosophy.
