Healing Bonusus - stacking ??

First Post
Mace of Healing – AV
Healers Cloak – AV (I think that is it’s name – spotted it last night as I might need to ditch my current cloak given the rule change)
Feat in Divine Powers (can’t recall the name) that allows Implement bonus to be added to healing powers.

That will potentially give me three items where the enhancement bonus is added to my healing powers (note some will work on me and some won’t)– with the bard potentially dipping out on healing development this could be a crucial benefit. I recall that ‘Untyped’ power bonuses stack and hence this I think this will work.

Our Cleric is not sure how this works ?

Mainly you need to look for what kind of bonuses they are.

Holy Healer's Mace only applies to Healing Word.
Healer's Brooch adds an unnamed bonus to all healing.
Healer's Implement adds an unnamed bonus to all healing.

If you stack that on top of the Cleric's +Wis to all healing, it's quite ridiculously large.

Uhh... not really. Nothing ridiculous about it at all.

Spirit of Healing. Level 6 utility. Allies who hit a target heal 2x Wis mod.

Now add in +Wis from cleric. Add +2 from a healer's brooch. Add another +2 from your implement. If you're level 8 with a 20 Wis, you're healing 19 hit points every single time you hit on an attack roll. For the rest of the encounter. It's basically an "I win" button for one encounter a day. All these stacking bonuses make the cleric significantly better at healing than other leaders.

Or a bard with Stirring Shout or Vigorous Cadence who heals people for 12 every time they hit or are attacked, kinda thing.

Healing Standard that heals people for 6 every time anyone spends a surge...

(Spirit of Healing is the name of the ability).

If the combat is static, perhaps - but then, that's not the model for 4E combat.

The limitations of the ability are that it only heals allies (not the cleric), those allies have to be in the square the spirit is occupying or adjacent to it, it costs a minor action to sustain it and a move action to move it 4 squares.

If the combat is mobile and the cleric is harried, particularly with attacks that can daze or knock prone to force choices on whether to sustain, then it's not as strong as it may seem on paper.

I think this is more a problem of surgeless healing than anything else. Those bonuses *are* really great, but when tempered by a daily surge limit, they seem to come more into focus. In essence, that +2 to healing might be a daily total of 12 HP at the *most*, if surges were required. Maybe for really robust characters it would total out to a daily total of 24 or more.

The sudden glut of surgeless healing largely destroys this balance. I am not generally in favor of proactive houseruling, but I see a couple options in this case:
- Give these items a bonus type, to limit stacking
- Only allow them to apply when a surge is spent

It is a hole in the rules, and can be a problem, I agree.
