Help! Druids and their Animal COmpanions...

Hello all.
I know that this is a last minute call for aid, but I am off in about an hour to my RL game, and I need Help/Advice.

I play a Druid, with an Wolf Companion.
My Wolf was turned Undead <and thus killed>, which happens, I know.
Here's the problem: The Wold ran off to Die, or whatever, as the process took several days. The DM still has the Wolf 'taking up' my Animal Companion HD slots <2>, even though it is now a hostile Undead. As well, is there anywhere in the rules that specifies the bond 'breaking' when the companion dies? The DM has been ambiguious about this whole situation, saying that I wasn't sure if he was dead etc... Any help/clearing up would be greatly appreciated.

the creature is 'dead' it's no longer 'alive' as in breathing or functioning as a living creature.

Plus you can just say "BuhBye!" to it and go on about your life for free...

In addition to the reasons other people stated, the wolf is no longer an animal -- its type has changed to undead, and so it's no longer subject to mind-affecting or animal-affecting spells like animal friendship.

By the rules, your DM is simply wrong here. Good luck on getting this resolved!
