I need to call upon the collective wisdom of EN World for help in naming the newest member of your family, an 11-week old male Shetland Sheepdog puppy. The puppy is the son of our six year old male, Scout. Like his father, he's expected to grow up into a working performance dog, competing in dog agility and herding -- so he's expected to have speed, stamina, and drive. Dogs tend to live up to their names ... so name him "Lump" and he'll probably be one, which isn't the intent here. Here's the catch: we need a registered name and a call name, and we'd like them to be thematically related and tied back to speed/drive/performance. The registered name is a combination of the kennel name (in this case, My T Hi) and the dog's "formal" name; the call name is what you call the dog every day. So the form should be My T Hi's _______, call name ______. Dad's name, for example, is My T Hi's Pathfinder, call name Scout. Considered but rejected so far: My T Hi's Fast and Furrious, call name Furrari (was the choice for a female; wife deemed it inappropriate for a male) My T Hi's Need for Speed, call name Boost Ideally: 1. Preferrably, the call name is 1-2 syllables, so it's easy for the dog to understand, and easy to say on course. 2. Shouldn't be too silly, as you're shouting the name in public all the time (I'm not sure what the agility competitor who named her dog "Who Farted?" was thinking). 3. Play on words is fine (Furrari = Ferrari), though not required. 4. Not too common (lots of agility dogs named Zoom, for example). Here's a picture of the little bugger:
