Boy season two was just a complete letdown for me...

Heroes Returns; Origins Dies

Heroes will return to NBC on Sept. 15 with an expanded third-season opener, but network executives confirmed that the proposed prequel spinoff, Heroes: Origins, is officially dead.

"We consciously chose to rest [Heroes] this spring so that [creator] Tim Kring and his team could get ahead of the creative and build up to a massive event--a three-hour Heroes night," Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and Universal Media Studios, said during the network's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on April 2. "On Monday, Sept. 15, we'll kick off with a Heroes clip show to try to bring back the audience and [then air] a massive two-hour Heroes film."

Silverman also explained why the heavily hyped, much-anticipated Heroes: Origins was scrapped. The show was originally conceived to help eliminate Heroes repeats, and directors and writers--including feature-film vets Kevin Smith, Eli Roth and Michael Dougherty--were already lined up before NBC dropped the idea.

"We were taxing our creative team to do too much around that," Silverman said. "We wanted 35 Heroes [episodes] and 12 Heroes: Origins, each of which was supposed to be a mini-movie and backdoor pilot. We reached far and challenged our people, and we decided it was better to focus on keeping the Heroes mothership as strong as possible."

Heroes will air Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT. (NBC is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)

Season two had its problems, but Tim Kring has publicly admitted mistakes were made, and has had ample time to prepare for the next season.

I have very high expectations for season three, and can't wait for September 15th now. :D

Too many mistakes in season two for me. With the writers strike I find that my enthusiasm for season three, which was pretty low to begin with, has evaporated.

I have hopes that season 3 will be what season 2 should have been...but my hope is tempered with caution now.

I hope that 2 hour premiere is a knockout, cuz that's what it'll take to reinstate trust in the series, I think.

Still, there is hope. I was impressed by Kring's candor, and if he can translate that into effective action, there's a real chance it could work.

Fingers crossed.

Yeah, season 2 sucked pretty hard. Couple of bright spots but they were few and far between. Too many inconsistencies and head-scratching moments.

I'll still tune in for season 3 though because the show has huge potential.

Same here, the writers strike killed the momentum of a lot of shows and now I don't have a schedule for TV. Heroes was such an utter failure for me that I have no interest in making a special exception to remember to watch it.

Yeah, it sure wasn't great. But I guess Season 1 set the bar pretty high, to be fair.

Hope 3 is better. I'm thinking it will be.

Yes! The Ori is dead!

Wait. Wrong show. :p

Maybe it's a good thing. They already have a good line-up of HEROES cast, minus Adrian Pasdar, the flyboy.
