[House Rule]: Endure Elements

Proposed house rule re Endure Elements:
In 3.5 they nerfed it because elemental resistance is now treated on an attack-by-attack basis, rather than a round-by-round. I like that idea and want to use those rules, but don’t like the way Endure Elements was nerfed. So here’s the compromise I propose:

As 3.0 Endure Elements but is handled on an attack-by-attack basis. Once the spell has absorbed 20 points of damage per caster level, the spell expires.

What do you all think?

For my sorcerer PC this was a central blank of her modus operandii, and the DM decided to say "gives DR5 against the chosen element for 24 hours" (which is basically the way we'd always played it, not noticing the "only 5pts per round).

It has caused no balance problems whatsoever, and is a nice little 1st level spell. I think your suggestions makes it too weak.

I think that Plane Sailing is right, and that even on a per attack basis Endure Elements is not too strong. In other words, the 3.5 revision nerfed it way too much.

As it is, it seems like a run of the mill cantrip.
