I think it's an interesting concept. I put together a similar kind of "non-combatant", but he was all warlord with the resourceful build. Not sure why you added bard - are you seeing something I'm missing? Or is it a story/aesthetic thing?

A couple thoughts....

With an 18 intelligence, you could even go for leather or hide armor and have comparable AC to chainmail without the penalty.

About weapons, I would go with either a defensive superior weapon, a polearm/staff you can use the Hafted Defense feat with, or a heavy shield and any high accuracy weapon. Since your basic attacks suck (unless you take melee training in another ability besides strength), your weapon should be there to protect you.

Likewise, since you're likely to be near the frontline, feats like Improved Defenses, Swift Recovery, Durable and Disciple of Stone are a good idea.

At level 2 you might want to check out the Legend Lore skill power to use your History check in place of any knowledge check 1/encounter. Very good fit for a bard.
