I always go:

Bread
Tomato
Bacon
Lettuce
Bread

Usually using mayo as the condiment, with butter being a reasonable substitute. Occasionally I’ll add mustard.

On rare occasions, I’ll add Swiss or smoked Gruyere.

There’s a bistro near me that had a DIFFERENT BLT on their menu for years: Brie, lettuce & tomato, with the sandwich grilled just enough for the brie to start melting.

Bread, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Bread. Plenty of mayo. Bread should be toasted.

The idea is that the mayo mixes just a little bit with juices from the tomato and the oils/salt of the bacon.

I'm not a fan of tomatoes, so the BLT is not something I'd ever wish to eat.

Swap out the tomato with a burger patty, and then we'll talk.
