Out of curiosity, do the people who are uncomfortable supporting Goodman Games still support WOTC/Hasboro? They have also done a lot of nasty stuff (still do re: unionization efforts.)

Negative, and I dropped Hasbro/Wizards first.

Ultimately, I just need to be in full control of my hobby engagement, and not have some corporation in the background pulling the strings. I would say more, but then I would get my hand slapped.

Try and get the free versions, or cheap intro versions and see what you like. They are all good, TBH. I buy way, way too many games. I'm pathetic.

Dolmenwood has a quickstart in this year's Free RPG Day, which I fully intend to throw some elbows to obtain.

Pirate Borg has one too, and it looks to be a great sandbox adventure that really sells the Dark Caribbean campaign setting, as it features at least two historical figures in a very different light in this world.

No. I don't support Hasbro and their anti-Union, pro-AI ways.

DCC is a very fun system I've enjoyed off and on for many years. Last year at Gen Con I participated in the van game (a session put on by Goodman in a VW van) and it was amazing. Not my favorite OSR (that would be ACKS), but a lot of fun. Would recommend.
