How many Prestiege classes in your D&D 3.0 / 3.5 game?

Hi everyone,

I'm just curious if any of my fellow DMs have placed a hard limit on the number of prestiege classes that exist in their campaign setting. My most recent list contained 36 classes, 9 of which were designated as NPC only. Mind you, I have yet to account for the revised Complete series or the Librim Mortis, so that number could change yet.

Even if I do come up with a "master" list, I'll try to accomodate my players' wishes, so long as the class isn't broken or greatly inappropriate for the setting.

Players must design their own prestige classes that make sense within the campaign's context. Naturally, I must approve the design. I have had two players do it. Prestige classes for NPCs are wide open.

So sayeth the ooze, so sayeth we all.

There are certainly some prestige classes that I would never allow, allow only under certain circumstances, or would modify extensively before allowing, but I can't see myself ever enforcing a hard, numerical limit.

I'll go to the opposite end and choose NONE. I don't care for them and don't see them adding anything to the game.

Players like them. Players happy means game runs smoother. I could care less for them one way or another I rarely bother to stat NPCs anyone because it isn't needed. But if there is a part of the game my players really like, I'm going to make sure to include it. It's their game, I just happen to be the guy behind the screen.

I don't keep a hard limit in my game, nor any kind of list.

My game is set in the Forgotten Realms, so most of the Realms-specific PrC's that are seen in my game are those I introduce in the form of NPCs (adds flavor that way and sometimes lets me use unique game mechanics, even if said NPC's aren't encountered in combat).

My players seem to favor DMG specific PrC's. Only one character and cohort have prestige classes from outside the DMG.

None. I'm running a PHB-only (for the characters) game right now. If someone wanted to use a PrC from the DMG I'd let them. But no one's asked yet. Of course, that may be because most of the players are new to the game, and only one of them has any experience with 3.x versions.

No, but I do approve prcs on a case by case basis. Also, I have a large list of books that I have already vetted the prcs in (as well as ones with some minor tweaks). Here's that list:
