My take is simple: I can re-watch, re-read, re-listen any number of times. But by definition, I can only engage with it the first time once. I want to set the terms for myself. And because I think of other people as also being real, I try to let them choose their own terms. (I screw up sometimes and feel bad about it, and try to do better.) it’s not just about plot twists or whatever, but the entire experience: when and where, details that matter to me but not always to others, the works. I think that framing it it merely as “spoilers” does an injustice to reality that we all get just one first time with a thing and should support each other in choosing how it’ll be for each of us.
