Another new-to-the-board question how do I get a little icon by my name in a post?

Bribery.

At the top, click on "User CP", then the third tab "Edit Options". The last item on the list is "Avatar", click on the "Change Avatar" option.

I hate to sound still dumber but where is user CP? ~is looking for it~

By asking in Meta.

Once you're in the CP, you can even load your own avatar/icon. It's pretty cool. If you have any trouble, ask the folks in Meta.

I found it thanks guys. Can any image of the right file size be used?
