If immobilized, can you stand up?

Immobilization means you can't move. But if you're prone and immobile, can you stand up?

I was trying to think of a monster that pinned someone to the ground and then proceeded to chew on them. This way, the person on the ground has the prone status (the -2 to AC and melee attacks) and being made immobile means they can't stand up.

Sure, one could use restrained, and just explain it that way though.

Anyways, original question still stands.

Being immobilized doesn't preclude standing up. All immobilze effectively accomplishes is that you can not move from your square.

An easy way to accomplish what you're looking for might be the following: If the attack hits, the target is knocked prone and grabbed. As long as the grab continues, the target can not stand up.

Once the target is prone and grabbed, the monster can continue to use its normal 'maul' attack to ravage the poor semi-helpless soul.

While immobilized you can still stand.

For the beast you want to design, consider the following:

1. Save ends the prone condition. Nothing says that a prone creature can always stand up.

2. The critter has an at-will, immediate interrupt it can use to prevent a creature it has pinned from standing.
