if your DM gave you 200,000 in magicals-what would you buy?

That being said, as Monte Cook has mentioned, the d4 wizard hit dice is unplayable without a good Con bonus of some sort, so if the wizard doesn't have high Con yet, he'll need a Wondrous item of Constitution +6 for 36,000 gold. A Wondrous Item of Intelligence for 36,000 is another must-buy. Since he can cast Mage Armour that lasts for half the day, he won't need an item that lends an Armour bonus to AC, so he should probably pick up Amulet of Natural Armour and Ring of Protection +3 each for a total of 6 AC for 36,000 gold. A Cloak of Resistance +5 for 25,000 gold to keep him from failing his Fort save and dying is also a nice choice. If he buys all the things in this paragraph, that still leaves him the cash for his favourite metamagic rod (unless his favourite is Quicken, which goes over by just a tad, in which case, he could sell some of the other stuff off) and some wands to hold low-level spells that you either use frequently or really need when you need them but don't like to memorise (like Knock if you don't have a competent locksmith) [a side note: at this level, you really shouldn't buy scrolls of low-level spells over wands, as wands reward buying in bulk by charging almost half as much per charge, plus your friendly Use Magic Device guy or low-level-caster can use the wand more easily. If you really don't need that many charges on the wand, ask the DM if you can have a partially-charged wand to represent the usages of the character's storied past]. The wizard's build and party dynamic, however, might invalidate some of these choices (but not the Intelligence boosting item, and probably not the Con item either). If you post it, I can probably refine these suggestions into a cogent list (for instance: if nobody can cast Freedom of Movement, you may want a Ring of Freedom of Movement, if you have a druid who likes to hook you up with Barkskin, you don't need an Amulet of Natural Armour (although the 1 min/level on Shield of Faith means that the Ring of Protetion is useful despite a Cleric), etc).

[QUOTE="Rystil Arden, post: 2061807, member: 29014"] A 12th-level wizard eh? It would depend upon the availability of Complete Arcane items, since there's a few items there that I like (Ring of Spell-Battle is very stylish but it does cost 67,600 gold, Ring of Arcane Might is a great deal for only 20,000, although the Orange Prism Ioun stone from DMG is only 30,000 and doesn't take an item slot). After that, I really need to see the wizard's build and stats, as well as the party dynamic.
