I use this house rule, when dealing with illusions and detect magic.
When you detect an illusion spell via detect magic, it counts as interacting with the illusion, therefore you are granted a saving throw. If you do not succeed, you'll get a false reading (school will be different... appropriate to the effect of the illusion, usually conjuration, evocation or transmutation).
