Immediate reactions / interrupts

How would you resolve this: A monster attacks and hits a character with a an ability that slides the character two squares and makes him/her fall prone. However, the character responds by activating an immediate interrupt that allows him/her to shift 4 squares. What is resolved first? And if the monster's ability is resolved first (making the character fall prone), can the character legally shift when he/she is prone?

Interrupts happen before the trigger resolves.

Reactions happen after the trigger resolves.

If the interrupter shifts out of range the attak gets invalidated so no slide nor prone nor damage happens

Ok, so does that mean that in the case of the example in my OP, if the action was an reaction instead of an interrupt, the character would not be able to shift, becase he/she would be prone?

Correct. Unless they had some kind of funky ability that let them shift while prone (I don't think this exists in the current ruleset).
