Immortality - what level boon?

Quickleaf

Legend
I'm in the process of writing an adventure which calls for a unique magic object/boon which grants immortality, both of the "you don't age" and the "you wake up after being 'killed'" sorts.

What level would you make such a magic item? Does 25 sound right or is it just too powerful period?

That isn't unreasonable for a one-shot item. EDIT: I would, however, make it significantly more expensive than potion that resurrects one (potion of life?).

If it can be used repeatedly, I'd say it falls into the realm of epic level artifact, as that isn't the sort of thing you'd want PCs to have easy access to. EDIT: Just for starters, it would render a number of potent Epic Destiny powers meaningless.

I know this is a bad answer, but it really depends on the campaign. I've been thinking about porting a handful of the old E6 rules to a new 4th edition campaign, which would include ye olde Death Flag, at first level.

Is there a reason why you're attaching a level to it? Are you just trying to figure out how much of the parcel it would eat up?

Yes it would be immortality. Period. However I can put in contingencies or quirks/drawbacks that reduce it's power. As for the epic destiny "when you die" powers, I'd just let those happen first, so the immortality effect only kicks in once the PC has been dead (or in a death-like state) for some time.

Because I'll be submitting the adventure to Dragon come October. Part is the story is that an evil NPC has this immortal boon which is causing problems, and one of the solutions the players can try is to reinvest the boon in one of the PCs.
