Impossible to kill a spectra?

I just looked at the spectra, I?m thinking of releasing it on my players soon.
But then I tried to think of a way for them to ?kill? it. If I?m correct it is not possible to kill it at all.
If the spectra just stay in the floor and attack the Pc?s from beneath it is not possible for the pc?s to kill it in anyway.
Thy cant turn it because it has total cover, thy cant hit it with any weapon because it?s inside a massive rock.

Am I missing something her?

Anything can be "killed" (or at the very least, defeated). It's just a matter of what tools and spells you have available to you, and how creative a player can get.

Off the bat, I beleive Brilliant Energy weapons should be able to hit through the floor. They might need to have Ghost Touch on them as well, not sure though.

Hence the other part of the paragraph:

Edit: Might as well add this as well:

"A ghost touch weapon deals damage normally against incorporeal creatures, regardless of it's bonus."

Well in order to attack them, at least a hand and/or arm has to get exposed...which is probably enough to target spells.

Hence the other part of the paragraph:

Congratulations - you now have a Brilliant Energy longsword that can harmlessly pass through incorporeal constructs, undead, and objects as well!

Brilliant Energy only affects living matter. Ghost Touch and Brilliant Energy together would be able to affect incorporeal living matter.

It still can't damage non-living matter, like undead.

But Ghost Weapon specifically says it harms incorporeal. The specter, I beleive, is incorporeal. Thus, the weapon should be able to affect it.

Let's say I am immune to slashing weapons. I'm also incorporeal.

Someone with a normal mace can't hit me - I'm incorporeal.

Someone with a Ghost Touch mace can hit me, and hurt me - it's not a slashing weapon.

Someone with a Ghost Touch longsword can hit me, but he can't hurt me. It's slashing damage. Even though Ghost Touch says it harms incorporeal creatures, and I'm an incorporeal creature, it can't hurt me, because it's the wrong sort of weapon.

For attacking undead - Brilliant Energy is the wrong sort of weapon.

it still doesn?t make sense

Come on now it?s a Cr 7 monster. It can?t be true that the pc?s need a 72K+ weapon to defeat it.

If the pc?s destroys the rock floor, the spectra can just move deeper or underneath another pc.

How can a party of six 8th level pc?s ever defeat a spectra?
