At Gen Con tonight Dungeons & Dragons announced that 2027's Season of Rebellion would be.... Star Wars! Yes, that Star Wars. They provided no details other than a brief mention and a teaser (shown below).

Wizards of the Coast has published official Star Wars games before for the d20 System back in the early 2000s. The license then went to Fantasy Flight Games, who produced a range of Star Wars TTRPG products for several years, before being transferred to its sister company, Edge Studios, who have done little with it in recent years.

As I was watching, I was feeling a bit cynical and old. Mostly I found the presentation patronizing. There was more talking than revealing. Why have Tracy Hickman and RA Salvatore out there if they aren’t announcing anything Dragonlance or Forgotten Realms related?

And then they mentioned Star Wars, and I got tears in my eyes. I’m not sure why. It’s not like there aren’t at least three other Star Wars games out there, but I definitely joined the hype train with that one.

this probably explains why "Edge Studios" was only reprinting, not creating anything new. I wonder how long their (Edge) reprint license will be for their star wars line (ex-FFG).
It's interesting. If WotC is only doing a book for a season, maybe FFG/Edge still maintain the long-term license. But then like you say, they've not done anything with it for years.

right, and the edge line manager if i recall correctly had stated that IP review wasn't moving along or being accepted for new stuff, and that was over a year ago.
