I'm looking for the list in the back of the 1st ed DMG that listed the original inspirations for D&D. I'm trying to figure out what I should read next, and after Tolkien, Moorcock, Lieber, Howard, and Lovecraft, I'd like to see what else inspired the game.

Poul Anderson. Three Hearts and Three Lions in particular.

Absolutely. It's a fun, quick read, and you'll swear you're reading about a D&D adventure...which is pretty impressive, considering it was written in 1953. :D
