Into the Halls of Sartor

A friend of mine and I are both fighting the jeans market right now. The two kinds of Levi’s I wore from 1988 on were basically discontinued in the early 2000s. I see them pop up occasionally- possibly for retro limited runs?🤷🏾‍♂️

So I went looking for different kinds of Levi’s, then other brands, eventually adding some Lee’s to the mix.

And my buddy? He HATES lightweight jeans.

What I’ve found is that, even within a particular line, denim weights can vary from light to heavy,* depending on season or what’s in style. Same goes for the inclusion of spandex.

So for the past few years, I’ve been looking much more closely at product descriptions. Not all sellers list that info, but you can usually find it SOMEWHERE for major brands.

* Heavy denim is defined as 15-20oz weight, and some kinds can be as high as 40oz for high-end selvedge pants.
For me, it's 7 loop Wranglers. Five loops? Who the hell decided that it was a good idea to have one loop on the whole rear section of a pair of jeans? Barely keeps the belt in place.

I hate the latest trend of including elastane and polyester in jeans and chinos. Sure, they fit great immediately after buying them but within a year, they have stretched out in ways that make them weirdly unflattering and good only for lounging around or work pants. Butt crack abounds (particularly if you pair that with low rise jeans).
