Iron Heroes Adventures?

Hi all,

I'm just thinking about trying out an IH game and was wondering what there is in the way of pre-made adventures out there (free or otherwise) and how these were rated. What makes a really good intorduction to the game?

There is one from Goodman Games reviews here on ENworld..

Firey Dragon has two Dark Harbor and a sequel (I believe) called Blood Storm.

I bought the Song of the Blade but never got around to playing it, or Iron Heroes for that matter. I have my own campaign idea in mind, but doubt we will ever get around to running it with all the other stuff we want to play.

EDIT: I also believe that over on the Malhavok site there was a sample encounter involving a raided farm house to showcase various tactical options. Dont have the link handy.

These two I'd highly recommend. I'm running my group through these and we're having a blast. Blood Storm, incidentally, can be run as a sequel to Dark Harbor, but doesn't have to be. Both work fine as stand alone adventures. Also, both adventures were written by Adam Windsor, who is the fellow who recently inherited the Iron Heroes brand from Monte Cook.

There's also To Duel With Dragons, which I'd recommend over Song of the Sword.

I got Song of the Sword as a door prize at a gameday... In all honesty, I'm glad I didn't pay money for it.

Finally, there is a free Adventure called "The King Must Die!" and a free Demo called "In the Arena of the Snake Cult"... complete with pre-generated characters and token sheets.

I've run this one a couple times, and I recommend it as a good intro to IH (which was its intent).

Other than that, you can run any D&D adventure using IH. It was intentionally designed to work with the D&D CR system. There a couple caveats elaborated in Mastering Iron Heroes.

The King Must Die! is a great system introduction. Three to four encounters, each well designed to showcase the IH mechanics while still being playable. The only one that's difficult to run is the statue fight (encounter 2), where the party is fighting up and down a 50 ft tall statue; there isn't a map, so that's a bit difficult to properly represent.

Dark Harbor is the best module I've ever seen, period. It works as a stand alone, an insert into a setting of your choice, the centerpiece around which a setting is built, the start of a massive campaign or just about anything else you'd want a module to do. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Blood Storm is excellent, though not quite as good as Dark Harbor. It's also not as new-DM friendly, in that many of the chapters are too PC-centric to have any sort of real structure; you'll end up having to pull a lot of things out of your butt.

Song of the Blade is poor. If you can avoid paying money for it then it might be worth having.

To Duel with Dragons is pretty good. It's not Dark Harbor or Blood Storm but it's a solid adventure with interesting plots, fights, characters, and structure.

As mentioned, you can also use almost any D&D module; just cut out the parts where the PCs gain magical loot and everything should work fine.

Good Luck and I hope you enjoy Iron Heroes.

I was thinking the same thing. Last year at our local gaming convention I ran an adventure out of the back of Frostburn with only minor tweaks. Next year I'm gonna run another quick adventure right off of WotC's website.

Aha! There *is* a map! I had the same issue, as the description of the statue is confusing. However, there is a map... though it seems to have disappeared (along with the adventure) from Monte's site.

I can post the files when I get home.

Ah, the maps were hosted on Dundjinni's site as a product tie-in. I can't find them on their site now, but here's the statue.
