Is it soda or pop?

So confusing. "Ill have a coke." "which kind? Sprite, Pepsi, Orange, Grape?" Especially, since these days they have actual orange and vanilla coke flavors.

Im from the midwest too, and pop has always kinda bugged me.
Coca-Cola, the Original, obviously. None of this newfangled stuff.

Now get off my lawn !

I call them "yuck".

Truthfully, I tend to think that I don't like Carbonated Beverages (which I guess is a technical name for what we're talking about) but then folks rightly point out that I do like Beer. So, I think it's more that I don't like the sugar-to-water ratio of Pop (what I would really call it). Yes, that would include fake-sugar. That's even worse.
Absolutely agreed. The only standard soft drink I'll have is ginger beer, or a lemon and tonic water.
My wife did introduce fruit flavored kombucha to our diet at one point, but even there I go for the ginger beer kombucha.

Lemon and tonic (with some ice cubes) is amazing, especially (only ?) in summer, when it gets really hot. My alternative is tomato juice with some ice, also preferably in the summer when it gets hot.

I remember this from when I was a kid:

That, or like Orange Crush or something you would get out of the cooler at a dirt floor BBQ shack, corrugated metal siding and picnic tables inside. I don't even know if that stuff exists anymore.

Big Red is still around, it just has a limited distribution area now compared to the 70s. For a while it was pretty much limited to parts of Texas and parts of Kentucky. I have one about once a year, but I have to go to a specialty shop in LA to get it.

If we are talking carbonated beverages. I've unfortunately gone back to several of these a day. Its not pop though. Pop is like..Sprite, or Pepsi, or Coca-Cola, or root beer.

I lived in Gonzales near San Antone where it was from back in the 70's

I only tend to have fizzy drinks when we’re out and then I tend to have an Arnold Palmer (mixed iced tea and lemonade) or a Gunner’s (mixed ginger beer and ginger ale with a dash of bitters). You can only really get the latter in the UK, though.
