Issues with Pick 'n' Mix product pages

Before I start, I have to mention that my products are being "hosted" by another publisher. I do not have direct control over any aspects of my product pages' appearances.

I have a few problems with my first product's product page (found here). This product page looks like every other product page on the ENGS; that's the problem. There are several fields on this page that would help describe the product, but aren't available to be filled. Specifically, the Pagecount and Crunch form lines and the empty box for the image appear on the page but remain bereft of info (except for the Crunch line, which simply displays a 0). There is a "more" link under the brief product description, but clicking it leads me to an identical product page that is missing the ENGS sidebars. It does not display the product's expanded product description at all (which one would hope cilking a "more" link would do).

I find this layout very frustrating, as it appears very confusing and doesn't make my product appear very appealing. My first comments on that page were that I should add some form of image to the page; I have since learned that, since this is a Pick 'n' Mix product, no image may be uploaded. I also cannot help but think that a potential customer, linked to this product page, will see the "Crunch: 0" line and write it off as a short story or something (the product in question is about 75% crunch). When linking people to my product, I have resorted to giving out the link to my press release instead of a direct link to this page, simply because I feel my PR has a better chance of making a sale.

I understand the intention for Pick 'n' Mix products was to have customers browse the main PnM page and pick out the products they want from that list. However, that cannot be left as the only way for customers to browse PnM products. For one thing, I have experienced an issue where holding my mouse over the product's name to receive the extended product description yields only the first line of the description; my browser cuts off the rest (I use Firefox, so if anyone knows how to rectify this, please let me know). Clicking on a product's name does not, for some reason, link to the PDF's product page, where one would assume a customer would go for more information on a potential purchase. And, as I've already stated, the PnM product pages are already in a sorry state. I don't feel comfortable linking customers to that product page, because it makes the product seem unprofessional (and, in the case of the Crunch line, can be potentially misleading). However, I will not simply link customers to the main PnM page and say "just scroll down, you'll find it somewhere". If I cannot link driectly to a product page that effectively presents my product, what else am I to do?

Please take these into consideration, and consider building a product page layout specifically for Pick 'n' Mix products. Thank you.

Yes. We are.

However, how did you get to that page specifically? There aren't supposed to be full product pages for P&M products - for the very reasons you pointed out. Was there a link to it somewhere?

I acquired this link through a publisher's page (UKG Publishing, my host on ENWorld). The link was among his master product list.

I guess that explains a lot... the page wasn't even supposed to exist :)

Nope!

We're working on a new P&M section which should look a lot prettier and present more useful info. Should be ready ina few days.

A seperate issue about the Pick n' Mix page(s); I think a comment section for each product would be great. At 1-2 pages they're just too short to justify any form of 'review', but I know for myself that if there are things about anything I've written and put up in the PnM section that people particularly liked, or didn't like, it'd be nice to have a way to know what those things were. Feedback helps for small products as much as for full-sized ones.

Well, all products in a bookshelf can be "rated". Also, every publisher at ENGS has their own hosted forum now, where comments like these should be welcome - indeed encouraged I think.

Agreed. Having written three PnMs for UK Publishing so far (one of which is up now), I would certainly welcome anyone who had purchaced it to give any feedback they have to give on the hosted forum. Unfortunately, no such posts have cropped up so far. Maybe no one thought of it.

I've written twelve 'capsule reviews' (short reviews) for Pick'n'Mix products, and have been planning to post them on the forums somewhere, but haven't worked out where would be the best place (I can't post them as an actual review on www.enworld.org because that system has been established for individual products, not twelve-products-in-one-review).

Would this forum be the best place to post the reviews? I think if we have a thread where anyone can post their capsule reviews it will be a lot easier to compare PnMs than if the reviews are scattered across the forums of half-a-dozen publishers.

I'd say, post it in an appropriate forum (the General forum might be more appropriate than this one). I kind of prefer that the current review system facilitates only single product reviews in one review, because it avoids confusion and facilitates better linking with the ENGS.
