The D&D Beyond roadmap has had this item listed for a while:

Today, this popped up on the D&D Beyond home page:

Notice the "NEW Keep Track of Your Session with Journals in Maps" and the "Watch: Journals" link at the bottom. The link just goes to the D&D Beyond YouTube channel, which does not (yet) have a video about journals, and there is no sign (yet) of journal functionality in Maps, but based on those breadcrumbs, it appears that Journals will be rolling out imminently.

There isn't any content on this page yet, but the URL says "Never lose the story again. Introducing Journals on[...]" so Journals are definitely on the way. Although it hasn't been published yet, that article is sequentially one higher that today's article, so my guess is that it's tomorrow's news item.

The pending release of Journals might also explain why the Changelog is late this week. There has been a post there every Monday since mid-April, but there wasn't one for the 25th. I'm guess it will go up after Journals goes live.

Hello friends!

Journals did in fact release today! Here's the blog post and the Dev Update video.

(Also, @Echohawk, the Changelog was updated yesterday. It's VERY chonky.)
Yay! I'm happy to start trying out the new features. I did notice the chonky Changelog yesterday, but this week's didn't actually include the Journals update, so I was beginning to think my deductions were premature!

Right now you can easily create "quick jot" entries, though I don't think you can edit them yet. Even this basic iteration will be great for keeping track of stuff on the fly.

I don't use D&D Beyond other than for keeping a quick reference to my PC spells as a player, but a Journal feature sounds useful as a DM.
