JRPG style TTRPGs

Reminds me... Twilight Sword is a mostly Zelda with some Final Fantasy nods and a cooking system that reminds me mostly of Genshin Impact. Am running it, it's good... a bit light, but very playable and thematic.

It's got a travel system with 2 encounters per day... and the Radia world book is nearly essential for the extra monsters alone. The world book doubles as a campaign framework, setting goals for the campaign. It doesn't quite get down to giving adventures, but the quest descriptions make it readily doable to create the adventures on the fly.
Is Twilight Sword out yet? To backers maybe?

Backers only at the moment.
So it’s out now.

Had a brief look. Perfectly cromulent system (d12 roll-under), good selection of abilities and spells, fun-looking cooking and travel subsystems, and lots of nice atmospheric art. It could use a bit more of a setting, but then you’re really supposed to make up your own idea of what Radia is like and, more specifically, what the Scourge is.

reminds me... I never commented on the final fantasy XIV TT...
Character gen: Pick race (pretty much meaningless mechanically), and class, and the GM's chosen of the levels. No building - each of the available levels & class combinations has a full sheet prefilled.
There is no advancement.
All the tactical rules are in the preview.
There are almost no non-tactical content. There's an adventure, and the foes for it, and a few extras, but the bestiary is thin.
As written, it's a tactical battle game.

I've never been more disappointed in a supposed RPG.
Sad but true.

Any chance the advanced player's guide (or anything else forthcoming) fixes any of this?

Is it a one and done campaign game? Or is there room for a variety of campaign types?

It’s mostly the system plus chargen and a bit of setting, so you could run a one-off or a longer campaign, there’s definitely room for advancement. It’s not The Mountain Witch or anything, there’s no built-in endpoint.

No, the intent is the setting book (Radia) is part of the slipcase set, and really isn't intended to be optional. Do beware of mimics... (from Radia)... which is also out.
