Jump (distance + high) question

Question:

What would the DC be for an unarmored barbarian (total Jump skill +8) to run and jump over a 10 ft. moat and grab (climb + 8) onto a wall or rope 10 ft. off the ground? I'm trying to design some interesting challenges for our next Conan game.

Here's what I figure at take-10:
Running jump would be 14 feet long. Running High Jump would be 4 feet high (He's 6 feet tall).

He'd probably have to roll his climb check to grab the wall, but what would the DC be to 'stick' to the wall or to grab the rope?

A running jump has a standard DC of 10, which leads to a minimum distance jumped of 5ft. Each point over that adds +1 foot. Therefore your babarian will jump a total of (18ft normal + 1/3 for having fast movement) 24ft. (conveniently also his maximum based on height)

The high point of a running jump is halfway across the jump, and the height reached is equal to 1/4 the total distance jumped (according to the FAQ). Therefore, your barbarian will be at a height of 6 feet at a distance of 12 feet from the starting point. This should be plenty high enough to reach the rope.

Hitting the rope itself, would require a melee attack. I would say that the rope is probably Size Fine. Depending on whether or not the rope is dangling or fixed, its effective Dex will either be 0 or 10 (maybe higher in windy conditions).

Thus, I would assign the AC of the rope to be 10 + 8(size) + 0(dex)= 18.

If that is still too easy for the character to be challenged by, I would go ahead and give the character a -4 speed penalty to his attack for running.

Hope that helps.
