I am creating some characters from Kara-Tur, but I dont want to make up some wrong names which make me sounds too silly.

Could any experienced Kara-Tur DM/players provide some good suggestions please.

hmmm

I'm not that familiar with kara-tur. Is it supposed to be Japanese or Chinese-themed? I say just grab a history book or website for the appropriate culture and start lifting names. Not that I'm an expert, but Chinese names tend to sound more like Pak-Kong Lee, Vietnamese names like Dai-nhan Hua (both people I now IRL :p ), and Japanese like Kojima Hideo (or Hideo Kojima in North America).

Those are names from our OA campaign:

Makura
Yatsuki
Takeu
Inaoko
Shaolan
Daijin
Xung-Li
Hosuri
Kamimoto
Hansokumoke
Utena
Resuka
Tachiro
Tora Zugeiro
Masuchiro
Keiko
Heihaichi
Mitsurugi
Masuchiro
Taiku
Kachuniru
Bichanaki
Gorobeki

These are from PCs and NPCs alike, a good portion come from EBON. I don't think anyone would really make sense in Japanese (or Chinese, for Xung-Li). Except maybe one or two that I suspect comes from anime... But for clueless gaijin, they sounds OK...

Kara-Tur is Asian-themed. There is one "China", one "India", two "Japans", one "Korea", etc.

Of course, Vietnamese names don't sound like Cambodgian ones, so asking for Kara-Tur name is a bit vague...

ahh ok

Ok. So I guess it does depend on where this campaign is going to be based in Kara-tur. I still say just find a website for the appropriate culture that relates to the part of Kara-tur setting you are running and lift names from there. Thanks for clearing that up though Gez, I was clueless about Kara-tur. :)

Some Chinese-style surnames for you:

Zhang
Zhuang
Zhen
Chang
Chen
Guo
Lin
Li
Dao
Hu
Fong
Huang
Wang
Mao

Just keep in mind, that MOST chinese surnames only one character - very rarely do you get the odd 'two-character' name, like Ou-yang. However, there is kind of one exception to this. While married women generally keep their own surnames, for purposes of legal documents they add their husband's surname to their own. So on paper, a married woman will have 2 characters for her last name, her originnal surname plus her husbands.

Ha! I knew my reading of Three Kingdoms would come in useful! Some more Chinese names:

Lu
Dong
Huangfu
Zhang
Cao
Xiahou
Xu
Diao
Kong
Taishi
Sun
Guan
Gan
Tao
Xue
Mi
Ma

Thanks for all the input.

From the suggestion I have seen, all of the names are most inspired, or shall I say, directly riped form some Chinese names.

I thought Kara-Tur have their own sort of Chinese names.

Are there some names which actually mean somthing, or represent some sort of tradition, or famous surname in Kara-Tur?

I am trying to aviod makeing up some characters with strage names and being laughed at by some Kara-Tur expert, or some Chinese people who really know about their culture.

Eh, I highly doubt anyone's going to jump on you for perceived inaccuracies. Just make up some stuff and have fun!
