Kickstarter Whales

I suppose I would qualify as a Whale for the campaigns I support.

If I am really into it and really want it, I go all in and then more.

Why wouldn't I get everything connected to it (especially Board games. Sometimes more components and better components are at the top tier, plus they also include other perks at times such as having your name in the credits or other items. The add-ons are something else, for example I really want to have more than one rulebook for many of the RPGs if I back them. I would prefer that they ship something like a Party size thing instead of just one book or a Book and GM book or something like that. Give me 5 player books for one GM book or other things...which is where the add-ons sometimes come in.

Depends what they bought--the sought after one, or one of the lesser ones you buy to get on the waiting list.

Ah, okay. I was mystified.

I was going to post this link

Rolex Submariner Hulk Mens Watch

Of a desired watch. As long as it's in stock and you have a means to pay, it is relatively easy to obtain one.

But, if you are after one that's been sold out or not currently available...yeah...it's crazy the lengths some people will go. I'd say it's more about paying even more money than that and some go rather crazy on how high and how far they will go to obtain a specific watch they want.

Where you may be able to get the original for 50K at the most when it was on site, when it becomes unavailable some will start trying to get it for millions sometimes.

That’s not a new one. That’s a used, discontinued watch selling for double the retail price. You’ll always find older pre-owned watches available, or get them from flippers who managed to get one at retail (they’re all over eBay), but you’ll pay through the nose for them. A submariner is about $10k, not $25k.

Similarly you can get an old Ferrari from a used car dealer. You can’t buy the new one from Ferrari though!

I was posting it to show how easy it could be to get one.

Though...Submariners (just like all the Rolex's) vary in cost. It depends on the version of the Submariner you are getting. Some of them cost 10K...but...

Submariner 48K USD from Rolex's main site...contact your local jeweler

10K is not the only price it goes for. It depends on what you are looking for and what you are wanting and how much of an upsale the individual you are buying it from is going to want. I think the price on Authentic Watches is actually really reasonable comparable to some others.

Sure. You can grab a pre-owned one on eBay right now. You can buy a used anything on eBay. Or from a pre-owned dealer like that Hulk linked above. But I was talking about a new one at retail. Then you’re talking 2+ year waiting lists and the need for a purchase history.

My other hobby is watch collecting. Can you tell? :D

You keep saying pre-owned.

I would not buy one off of ebay.

Authentic Watches come with a certificate of authenticity, serial number, and warranty. All things which are suspect on ebay. They are on the grey market, which means though the watches are new, they are not official jewelers. However, most of the watches sold there are new. Many of the items were orignally store display models.

PS: You may consider store models as pre-owned I suppose, but normally they are simply (especially in the case of upper end watches) not ones they can specifically sell as they were on display in some cases, but otherwise are identical to the models the were actually selling. They are official and have the serials. In some cases they are sold under the price of those that were sold at jewelers for that reason.

I'm not a watch collector, but I do try to be at least a little economical in my purchases.

I don’t really know what you’re trying to say or what point you’re trying to make. A pre-owned object is one which has been previously owned. As opposed to new. That Hulk is a pre-owned watch, not a new one.

That's what I normally would think, but you keep referring to watches sold on Authentic Watches as pre-owned. As all the watches are new (many are store display models though, which is why at times they are cheaper than they were at the jewelers that sold the model) I am not quite sure why you refer to them as selling pre-owned or used watches.

I certainly would rate them higher than ebay and you don't have to wonder if you are going to get ripped off or not. They are a reliable and respectable dealer for most high end watches as long as you don't mind using the gray market.

I am a bit whale-ish in the amounts I am willing to spend on certain products (most notably Dwarven Forge), though collecting terrain is just an expensive hobby. I will also spend a lot if I perceive the value to be high; for miniatures, once stretch goals lower the cost to under 1$ per miniature and I trust the company to deliver good quality miniatures, I will back heavily (Reaper, for example).
Ditto. I went in on two different Zombicide Kickstarters because I got a lot of extra miniatures out of it. I actually sold off all the extras that came with Zombicide: Black Plague for more than I spent on the Kickstarter itself.

The watch is a discontinued watch selling at twice retail. It is not new. I don’t know what else to say to you. I’m sure they are reliable and respectable. I have no opinion on them or their reliability or respectability. Are they friends of yours?
