The novel was surprising, lending itself to a more inception take with the unreliable narrator that is handicapped so you don't know what can be trusted in the narrative. I unexpectedly enjoyed it when we read it for book club

thats good to hear, I cant see Taika taking on a story without a bit of quirkiness, and that sounds much more like his shtick even if the trailer doesnt quite convey it. I may have to revise my assessment

I mean...I watched the trailer and I kept thinking it looks like thinly-veiled pro “AI” propaganda. Look, robots are people, too. They get sad if left alone at the store. Take one home now. Ugh. Pass.

It reminded me of Spielberg's "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" (2001).

I just hope he has someone to rein him in. The story being told is subtler than what they portray in the trailer, and I've not seen him have an overly deft touch.

Huh.
Second the recommendation about the book in:re AI. It's very much a meditation on how humans have the capacity to be both tremendously empathetic and kind as well as the capacity for cruelty and horror. Some of the most intense moments were between the humans, as observed by Klara, and then filtered through her non-human world-concept.

Also, I believe it came out before LLMs were a "thing" and AI was a "THING". But is now being used as a vehicle to discuss the THING.
