L5R Daimyos using Birthright?

Is it possible or is the whole bloodline deal just too wrapped up in the whole shibang?

Anyone know whose publishing the 3E that was posted on the D20reviews site yesterday?

Could you clarify a little on your question? I have no idea what you mean by birthright as opposed to bloodlines.

Okay:
Rather than using Cerilia for a Birthright game, could you use their rules for regency and ruling a kingdom for a campaign in which the players are all rulers of a Clan?

Thought it would be neat if the Emperor (forget the whole meta-plot card game tripe) and three or four Clan leaders die, leaving their eldest sons, fresh from their gempuku.

So, a young Hantei and three young Daymios make their way through the Emerald Empire.

Thought it would be neat.

I'm not sure if Birthright is necessary at all but wondered if it had anything useful for ruling kingdoms in it.

He means the 2E Birthright campaign setting, where the PCs were supposed to be powerful lords who were descended from various powers. Hence the "bloodline" thing.

I didn't realize that ya might not know what Birthright is.

Birthright was a 2nd Edition setting and in a recent ENworld news update there was a website in which it was mentioned that there was a 3E coming out for it and it got me thinking.

So, two questions:

Any idea who is publishing the 3E Birthright?

L5R Birthright, is it viable or should I just run it without Birthright. It is just a hypothetical campaign.

Thanks, Hong. Now that's your've mentioned it., I've heard Birthright referred to on the boards here before. Just to be safe I did a little research on the setting by checking webpages devoted to it.

Paka, I guess it depends on what you want to do. I see no trouible with some modification of bloodlines. The leaders of the seven clans, and the Hantei are all decended from the original eight Kami that founded the Empire. And the idea of people running a clan, or family, could have appeal.

On the other hand, except for a one shot, it's very hard to imagine Hantei the XXXIX, undisputed Lord of the Emerald Empire, and his vassel, Daimyo of the Lion and warleader of 300,000 samurai, off on adventures by themselves. If nothing else they'd be badly neglecting their roles as leaders.

I hear ya.

I don't envision the three Daimyo and the Emperor, romping through the Empire on madcap adventures but there could be ways for it to work.

It really would be a political game but yes, the contrivances would get really kinda deep and the game might not work. Just an idea I am kicking around.

Well, basically, the first Day of Thunder was simply seven mortals, each founder of a family in one of the seven clans, setting off with Shinsei into the Shadowlands to defeat Fu Leng. Classic adventure stuff. It would just tend to be more 'special case, highest priority, our destinies have led us to this' sort of stuff.

Are the bloodlines that closely tied to the regency mechanics? I didn't get that impression.

Well, i don't know crap about Birthright but i did run L5R for 2 years. There was a time when the Hantei was sick, secretly being poisoned by Bayushi Kachiko. He had a son who was just a child, but i don't see why you couldn't make the son a little older and have him run around on these adventures. Likely if the young Hantei left the emerald city the Lion clan daimyo at least might take a personal intrest. And the Dragon are always doing weird stuff, they could send Mirumoto Daini and a minor clan daimyo.
