Spoilers Lanterns season 1 spoilers discussion

I enjoyed that episode, I thought it was gonna be another full flashback episode so I'm glad that it had only a few minutes of Hal's past then came back and moved the story forward. I'm wondering if Sinestro is all that's on that planet. Thought it was gonna be a spare lantern or a ring forge but it might just be Sinestro. Mind you, on a planet where fear is in the very air, maybe Sinestro does forge a yellow ring there...
Makes me wonder how did Sinestro escape but come to be stranded on that particular planet? Seems more like a very personal statement by someone who had it out for Sinestro.

Still shocked John appears to be going through with plan to pay blackmailer 315k. Was kind of hoping he'd tell Kerry the truth about his fight with Hal in tonight's episode to take away what little leverage the blackmailer had... but I can also understand his perspective that he's probably unlikely to get a fair case against him in a predominantly white rural town who hates him, hates Green Lanterns, ans whose sherif was dating the deceased guy he punched right before he died.
My theory is that it has little to do with the blackmail, and he'll tell her that when he gives it to her. It has more to do with the barely adequate I'm sorry and taking accountability for his part in what Rushville became.

Look at it this way. He can apparently easily afford the number. But before this, hed not even thought of the town or the devastation that he left behind, even to the point of not realizing the motel hadn't been rebuilt.

And I'm on board with it being Kerry. First, he found out about Noah, the only thing that she loves more than him. Second, he had the whole death wish. Thats the reason that Kerry called John. Her grief was genuine, but masked guilt.

I can definitely see John wanting to put anything Lantern related behind him. He also didn't seem to remember that literally the only thing that Hal ever praised him for, was maintaining a construct without the ring.

As soon as I heard the thunder I thought, "PUT ON THE DAMNED RAINCOAT!" they telegraphed that very well.

Certainly possible that reflects John's financial situation and thought process. I'm viewing it more from the perspective that black mailers can easily go back on their word and continue to extort their victims after they are paid their initial ask.

Im this case, John didn't actually do anything wrong other than understandably not volunteer the fact that he argued with and punched Hal arpund the time he died. He could easily have the awkward convo with the sheriff about what went down, and then take away the blackmailers power and avoid having to pause investigation constantly to deal with her. Also, if I remember correctly, the $ was withdrawn from the business account, which likely would be fraud and unlawful uses for those funds. Even though I know John would face some serious risk telling the truth, I think he is increasing his risk playing along. Maybe I'm underestimating him and the writing and he'll donate the $ to the town in an official capacity and is just humouring the blackmailer briefly to buy time.

Depending on how his company is structured and his position at it, he could be kicked out of his firm for misusing company funds.

It sounds like he and his brother are the principals. Not sure if its traded or not, but if you're the principal and there are no other stakeholders, the latitude you have with the funds is much greater

The specific wording was "from your account" and I might be reading too much into that, but it sounded like personal funds to me.

Given that everything in Hal's bag would have been important I think we can be reasonably sure that he knew Sinestro was on the planet, wanted John (or whoever could get into the box; presumably John) to survive, and wanted Sinestro dead.

Or he’s the one who broke Sinestro out, stuck him on that planet, but knew he held important information about the Manhunters that he needed to get to John somehow.

On the blackmail, I assumed John was just entertaining the idea to buy time to investigate Hal's death. If he admits that he was both in town and broke Hal's nose it makes him a prime suspect. So, its a classic example of an investigator throwing off suspicion of themselves in order to stay on the case. However, with John transferring funds it seems like he is looking to pay the ransom, which seems like a bad idea.

On Sinestro, Hal might have had something to do with Sinestro's bust out and current location. Im guessing there is some end game afoot where Sinestro has info on some scheme of importance. Of course, Sinestro is entirely untrustworthy but its a situation where he has something to offer so you gotta dance with the devil.

My worry is that the finale will be a simple make a golem body for Hal-o-gram and nothing major will be resolved, leaving things wide open for another season. Not saying I dont want another season, but I dont prefer that kind of writing and execution. The alternative though is the pace will go break neck and a ton of stuff will happen but in rapid succession that might be fulfilling, but feel like pace whiplash from what came before.

I think Hal was visiting Sinestro for some reason(s). The gun is not meant to kill Sinestro, but to keep him from trying to escape during the visits.
