[+] Let's talk about the World Cup!

Wow! I absolutely did not have Morocco scoring first against Brazil on my World Cup bingo card.
Morocco has some good players -- I feel like I've read about them being on the cusp of something big (biggish?) for a while now.

EtA: I know he had an uptick in form towards the second half of the season, but it really looks like Casemiro's legs have gone. What was he doing there? Woof.

A good win for the Aussies in their first match today.
Punching above their weight on the world stage again.

My wife and a handful of her Curaçao friends are parked in front of the telly with a table full of drinks and snacks, watching their tiny island's first appearance at a football World Cup. Expectations are minimal, pride is huge.

I was surprised to see how full the stadium is. I believe that 6000 fans have travelled from Curaçao, and presumably there are quite a few Germans as well. But I reckon the bulk are locals, and it's great to see that kind of support.

Impressed Curacao manage to score a goal, though the end result was sadly rather predictable.

As for Canada, our next game vs Qatar just happens to fall on my birthday. Yes it's just over in Vancouver and for about 20 seconds last summer when they announced the date I entertained thoughts of trying to get a ticket, but sanity prevailed and so I'll be in the pub with some friends instead, hopefully cheering my lungs out.

There's an England game on my annual big birthday BBQ which is on the 27th. I figure most people will be glued to the TV. Frankly, it's rude of FIFA to schedule a match on the same day as my birthday party.

I just took it as a sign that the match would BE my birthday party. :)
