I am creating a PrC to prevent a wizard in my game from gaining higher level spells. Instead, the PrC would give more spells of lower level and give "phantom" spell slots that can only be used for higher level abilities. I'd like to know what others think:
Limited Mage
Requirements: able to cast 5th level arcane spells, 12 ranks in spellcraft, any metamagic feat
Spell Power: For every level in Limited Mage, the caster checks made by the wizard recieve a +1 bonus.
Phantom Spell Level: at first level, and every other level there after, the Limited Mage gains the ability to cast more spells as if they had gain another level of their previous spellcasting class, except the higher level spell slots gained in this way can not be used for higher level spells. Instead, they can only be used for metamagiced lower level spells. This works in all other respects as +1 spellcasting level.
Wizardy I-V: For every level gained, the Limited Mage doubles the base number of spells they can cast of that level, as if wearing a Ring of Wizardry of that level. This effect does not take up any item slots.
Bonus Feat: the Limited Mage can choose a bonus feat off the following list:
*Compressed Metamagic: after all metamagics are applied to a spell, reduce the total cost of the metamagic by 1. This does not reduce the total cost of metamaigic to less than 1.
*Arcane Preparation: As writen in Magic of Ferun
*Spontanious Casting: Any caster who prepares spells gains the ability to exchange a spell in memory for a spell 2 levels lower that they already know.
*Spell focus,
*Great spell focus,
*Spell penetration,
*Greater spell penetration,
*any metamagic feat,
*any item creation feat
