- Basic D&D, the red box in particular- this was largely my intro to RPGs and I spent a lot of time with it as a kid.
- Marvel Super Heroes Role-Playing- this is the game I probably played the most in high school with the group of friends that is still my core gaming group. And tons of the material I crafted for this game still rattles around in my head even after all these years. Lately, I’ve also started playing with my son, too.
- Blades in the Dark- this game just clicked with me immediately- it delivered the kind of gaming experience I’d been striving for with systems that fought me. This was the game that got my group to branch out.
- Spire: The City Must Fall- this game intrigued me immediately. The premise of oppressed dark elves in a weird city ruled by high elves just worked for me. The book is just oozing with ideas and you can easily run a full campaign based on what appears on individual pages.
- I’m really not sure about the fifth. It probably changes based on what I’m running or excited about at any given moment. Over the last few years, I’d say Stonetop is one of the tops for me. But I’ve also really enjoyed Heart, Mothership, Dogs in the Vineyard, Galaxies in Peril, A Thousand Arrows, The Between, and Mythic Bastionland.
