mage armor provides armor bonus rigth? so if you have, say leather armor and
you cast mage armor, the bonuses do not stack and you use higher ac?

Correct, both provide armor bonuses and so don't stack. Just use whichever bonus is higher.

Right. Don't forget that mage armor differs from normal armor in helping against incorporeal touch attacks, so someone in full plate and with a mage armor active will still benefit from the latter if attacked by a wraith, for example.
